The Story of Bonnie + Clyde
Ever since we are young, we dream about growing up. Just like me, and many others, you might dream about finding love as you get older. There are so many interesting love stories that are well known and so fun to learn about, like Bonnie and Clyde. So, to celebrate this Valentine's Day, let me tell you about Bonnie and Clyde.
Clyde Champion Barrow and Bonnie Parker were raised in Dallas, Texas, where they met at ages 21 and 19. At the time of their meeting, Bonnie was married to an imprisoned murderer. They met in January of 1930 and Clyde was sent to jail soon after for burglary. He escaped using a gun Bonnie had smuggled to him. Unfortunately, Clyde was sent to jail again and was paroled in February 1932. He rejoined Bonnie afterwards and they resumed a life of crime together.
Before her life of crime, Bonnie was a part-time waitress who lived in a poor part of Dallas. She wrote poems, too, but was quite bored with her life. Clyde was a thief, who lived in a similar, poor family to Bonnie's. He wanted to make a name for himself as a thief.
After they joined each other again, their crime spree began. They traveled all around Texas and surrounding states, causing unrest for officials and locals. Some friends joined up with Bonnie and Clyde, and the gang made their way across the state, participating in a number of robberies. By July 29, 1933, two of their friends were captured or fatally wounded in a shootout in Iowa. In November of 1933, the final friend was captured. Bonnie and Clyde continued on with a number of burglaries.
Bonnie and Clyde's life of crime came to a halt on May 23, 1934. A group of police officers gathered in the bushes along a highway in Sailes, Louisiana. Bonnie and Clyde appeared driving away in the early morning hours, but the group of officers opened fire, which killed the two instantly.
Bonnie and Clyde's story is such a fun and wild one. They were suspected in 13 murder cases, several robberies and burglaries, and even a kidnapping. I really didn't know anything about the couple, but it's such a crazy tale. Even if Bonnie was legally married to a murderer during their four year crime spree, it is still such a sweet story...in a very twisted way.
